February 7, 2016 The RUN is 13 out of 132 Weeks.
Waist high or better at least once a week.

We had Good waves on February 4th, & the 6th, 2016

The NEW HAMPSHIRE Primary, Super Bowl 50, The Zika Scare,
and the Never Ending 2016 Swells.

The long awaited New Hampshire Primary is this week. I don't know about you guys, but I am really going to miss the endless phone calls, glossy political mail, and the TV ads. I mean it. I suppose I am one of the few who actually find humor in all of this.

Take for instance, the phone calls. Every number I own has been called.

Depending on who calls, I like to ask for the candidate themselves. In other words, if some kid calls me about Bernie, I shoot back with a quick "Put him on the phone!" And I won't let up until the caller hangs up. I amuse myself with these tactics.

The other thing I say when the phone rings "Please in the name of God, allow us to eat, and get on with our lives. I won't vote for your candidate, in fact I will campaign heavily against him, ALL BECAUSE of this phone call. I will donate every last penny, to one of your opponents, all because of this phone call."

They usually hang right up and cross my name off the list.

But just think, one of these men could end up being our next president.

I know who I'm voting for. But I will not endorse that person here, because I don't want to offend any of my readers. Plus, I'm trying to veer away from politics. Though I suppose I'm not really doing that good of a job am I?

No it's not this guy. Oh hell no. This man scares me. I'm not sure what would happen if he gets elected. It would be a terrible day in our nation's history.

Here's another reason why I'm not voting for Donald.

And look, am I the only person who is bothered by this guy's strange bald spot?
Good god man, fix that shit. Put a little spray paint on that missing strip why don'tcha. Or cut the piece in front of the gap, and pull it closer to the main body of scalp. And I'm sorry but, his face reminds us of Grandpa on the Munsters.

Come on this is funny. But is it true? Ha!

I know, I know, I'm going to hell. I just find these things amusing, And I figure if I find this stuff funny, then most of you will too. Am I right?

And Bernie? Ha...this is pretty close to what he's selling. "Bernie and Son."
Hum to the "Sanford and Son" soundtrack.

Sorry guys but I couldn't very well let the Dems off the hook now could I?

If looks could kill ole Hillary would be folding over right now.

Ok who's scarier? Hillary or Donald? Hmmm that's a tough call. I'd say they are both pretty dam scary. What say you? Regardless, if you live in NH, GET OUT AND VOTE on Tuesday February 9th, 2016.

"Surfing and Voting Heals All Wounds"

Everyone knows that winter is not for the feint of heart. Whether you're in the water, or standing on the beach shooting pics. Let me tell you all, that shooting can sometimes be colder. I know of what I speak. I have surfed many winters (including two years where I surfed every single day for a year), and I have stood on the beaches, in the coldest of days. And I must tell you, it's colder standing on the beach. Trust me, it is.

To see more of Ed's pics just scroll through the archives. He has shot so many pics for the blog. Be sure and pick up a copy of the COLD COAST and check out Ed's own gallery.

Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog. Photo by Ed O'Connell

Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances

Ok it's here. Super bowl Fifty. This is a tough pill to swallow for the hardcore Patriots fans. We know the truth. We all know what could of and should of happened two weeks ago. Suffice it to say, that we are all in agreement, that these boys should be playing today. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

So now that we have washed our souls clean. We can face this game with little or no stress. Now, I don't know about you guys. But I am wishing for a massacre. A bloody massacre of the Denver Donkeys. This is what I hope we see all night long.

The QB who fell to earth. On your knees you inferior QB. You cry baby busted up old man. Pay homage to the man who will beat your donkey ass tonight. Cam Newton, the NUMBER ONE QB playing tonight. The MVP of Superbowl 50.
(Gee I hope I'm right, because I am going to look pretty silly if they don't win.)

Go easy on them Donkeys Cam baby. Wouldn't want any of them to get hurt. Just run up the score. Please.

Ok so the latest horror story on the news is this new Virus.

Seriously frightening. I would suggest any woman who is pregnant to steer clear of South America. Don't take the risk. The babies who have been born with this terrible virus have been deformed. Just the saddest thing ever. And of course it is spread by mosquitoes. Damn I hate mosquitoes. Why can't we find a way to wipe out all of the mosquitoes in the world. What purpose do they have? Bat food? Sorry, not enough.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
Here's an example of what I am talking about. This poor father is holding his young baby who is obviously deformed.

Please my friends take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians KSM (Khalid Sheikh Mohammed).

*Note to self must pick up a case of DEEP WOODS OFF at Home Depot.

RIP Abe Vigoda ( a lot of us thought he was already dead)

Please send prayers and positive thoughts to the family and friends of Cpl Chris Orlando USMC ( South-shore surfer). Keep local surfer Mike Keefe in your prayers. Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfers Terry Morrison and Rick Fiorentini and their families. Also please pray for Marine SSGT George Masten. A combat Marine who served in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the purple heart for wounds received in Vietnam in 1967. George is battling cancer. PLEASE say a prayer for him.

Please Support ALL The photographers who contribute to Ralph's Pic Of The Week every week for the last 9 years. **Think about BUYING a HIGH RES Photo from any of the weeks on RPOTW.

Yesterday- The Originator Of The Selfie. My late father Gus. Born March 27, 1924-Died February 7th, 2000.

(Below) I could not accept the award for being the "Original Selfie by Ralphie" simply because my father Gus, was the originator of this now hugely popular trend. All you Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram freaks should bow down to this man. For HE was the one that gave birth to this form of self photography. It's hard to believe that he's been gone for sixteen years. He was one of a kind, and I owe him so much for helping me be the man I am today.

JONAS January 25-2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Winter Storm JONAS hit on 1-24-16. The big ole bag of wind crushed the mid Atlantic states. I have to say, JONAS was not that big of a deal here in New Hampshire. Guess you could say we dodged a bullet. No snow, but plenty of surf. Though I missed the bigger day (Sunday the 24th) sorry. Hey I'm a Patriots fan and there was no way I was going to miss that game. In hindsight, I probably should of. So I got out on Monday the 25th. The surf was much cleaner but a tad smaller. The usual suspects are: Kody Grondin (who's birthday was on the 25th. Talk about birthday gifts) Kai Nichols, Weston Rogers, Max "Mackey V" Fatello, Kyle Linseman, and Johnny Meehan. The music is "Modern Love" by The Thin White Duke himself. What can I say? I'm still on a Bowie kick. Be sure and watch past the credits.
Hope you dig it.

Ralph

Winter Storm Jonas | Hampton NH from Kris Roller on Vimeo. January 24, 2016
Kris is relatively new to the surf scene, but plans on getting out there soon enough. This edit shows some real promise and talent if he takes surfing more serious. The potential is there. Thanks for the clip Kris.

On January 11th, 2016 David Bowie left this earth. But in his wake, there was a new groomed, ground ocean swell. I had Bowie songs in my head all day long, as I shot from sunrise, to sunset. Seemed like everyone was getting their share of waves. The wind and swell had an almost magical feel to it. Plenty of stoked surfers on the coast. I was doing my typical, two handed strike. One hand held the Canon HF G 30, and the other had the NIKON 7100. Yes, I was shooting hand held. Oh, and there's NO slo mo, except for one eat section that had to be slowed down to see the carnage. Speaking of surfers, the one's that I can ID and remember are: Peter Stokes, Johnny Meehan, Markey J, Mackey V, Weston Rogers, James Morse, Dave Cropper, Tom Hay, Ryan Jackson, Steve Bailey, Erica Nardone, and young Gavin O'Hara. If I missed anyone, I'm sorry. The Music is of course by the Thin White Duke. Heroes. RIP David Bowie.

CAN'T FIND MY WAY HOME

This is the first of a series of old super 8mm film I have.
This one covers from 1971-1985.
The two California surfers riding those fish's were way ahead of their time. The year was 1971. They may have been someone of notoriety, but I did not bother to find out. I remember showing this footage to Kevin Grondin and Allen Bigby, and it changed the way we surf our waves around here. The local surfers back here in NH in this clip are Stevie O'Hara, Paul Hamblet, and yours truly. If you look close enough, on one of my waves I perform the "Martini". I take a sip from my martini glass, and then a puff from my cigarette holder. A very distinguished move for those days. Ha. And there's footage of me on my camo board..ugh. I was a self admitted asshole back then. Age has mellowed the raging beast that used to live inside of me. Any way, I love this song. It brings back memories for all of us old folk. *Not sure who shot the footage of me, could be anyone of the surf crew, or my then girlfriend Cory Bunton.
